Volker KRIEGEL - Inside Missing Link 1972

Volker KRIEGEL - Inside Missing Link 1972
Label: MPS

Jazz

What a difference a year makes, and with this release, Kriegel collaborates with legends Eberhard Weber on bass, as well as a horn section, for what should be considered a breakthrough album, a jazz/rock statement that would showcase the German guitarist not only for his innovative playing style, but more so, for his infusion of rock and jazz elements, something that just a handful of artists were daring to try during this exciting period for music.

I think this one holds up very well over time, lot's of energy by the band, and some interesting quirky arrangements that have some Zappaesque feel. There is an abundance of music to take in as well, being it was a 2 lp release. Also reissued on two cds.  This shows Kreigels continuation into more energetic territories, and leaving some of the more avant themes behind. Imagine some of the later Brecker Brothers, yet this band was doing this hard bebop in 1972

This 2 LP-set by German guitar player Volker Kriegel is a gem, it was released in 1972 on MPS Records and features Albert Mangelsdorff, Alan Skidmore, Heinz Sauer, John Taylor, Eberhard Weber, Cees See, Peter Baumeister and John Marshall.

Great double Lp gatefold with the popular club jazz version of Edu Lobo's "Zanzibar", the funky "Fur Hector" and the drumbreak heavy "Slums On Wheels". Players include Alan Skidmore, John Taylor and Eberhard Weber amongst others. Original black MPS label release.
