Ian MOORE - Ian Moore 1993
Blues
First, let me just say that if you're considering purchasing this CD, you definitely need to read the review by "A music fan from Detroit Rock City." "Music fan" has basically covered every base you could want covered in a review, and his/her assessment is dead-on. I already knew about Ian Moore's label and style shifting before I bought this CD, but if you buy this CD and come to love it like I do, then you'd expect Ian's other CDs would follow much the same style. Sadly, that's not the case...
Why Ian Moore chose to depart from the bluesy guitar into another style is beyond me because this CD definitely showcases his talents for bluesy songs. He has a great voice, the guitar sounds effortless, and the whole package is natural. My love for this CD began with one song--"Satisfied." While I really enjoy the CD in its entirety, I think "Satisfied" is the best track. It is in this song that you can hear unchecked emotion and desire, and when it comes through the speakers, you feel what he must've been feeling as he sang it. Sounds corny, maybe, but in its simplicity, this song is potent.
"Deliver Me" and "Blue Sky" are also great songs--"Deliver" has a gospel feel to it, and "Sky" is a plaintive request for some shelter, some comfort in a difficult time. As I already said, the whole CD is a gem, but there are a few of the tracks that you'll find yourself listening to over and over.
I wish I could say that I plan to get more of his music, but in light of Music fan's review and what my friends have told me about his later CDs, I don't think I will be. I plan to at least listen to them, just out of curiousity...
While this isn't available on Amazon right now, you can still find it in some record stores. Major chains don't seem to have any copies left (I tried 5 completely different stores and no luck), so try your smaller neighborhood music stores to find this treat!

Steeped in blues, R&B, and soul, Texan guitarist Moore smolders and sears in equal measure.
The Austin-based blues-rocker's early influences included the Beatles, Curtis Mayfield, Stevie Wonder and Sly & the Family Stone. Encouraged by his parents, Ian Moore took up the violin at age six, moving to guitar nine years later. Moore gained experience touring as a guitarist with Joe Ely; this led the way to a solo tour opening for the Rolling Stones and ZZ Top. He then signed with Capricorn; three records followed from 1993-95: Ian Moore, Live from Austin EP and Modernday Folklore.
It was his last Capricorn release, Modernday Folklore, that suggested that the Texan was looking beyond the blues-rock roots of his home state towards a more expansive sound. Hints of southern soul, gospel and Beatle-esque pop shook hands with the blues riffs that Moore had previously traded in exclusively. It was four years before his next album, but when Ian Moore's Got the Green Grass appeared in 1999, the transformation from blues-rocker was complete. His lauded guitar work wasn't abandoned, but was no longer the sole force driving Moore's songs. He continued to explore the blues, as well as highly crafted pop songs with his 2000 release, And All the Colors, creating a unique album dynamic in the process of balancing the two styles. Always noted for his live performances, Ian Moore released his first full length live album in 2001, Via Satellite, with his touring band Action Company. Where electric blues and atmospheric songwriting had been juggled on previous recordings, Via Satellite managed to meld the two with excellent effect. Steeped in blues, R&B, and soul, Texan guitarist Moore smolders and sears in equal measure.
I used to listen to it often when it came out. Good stuff...
another of the SRV comparisons that I suppose had to
be made. Please Enjoy!!!
